Been a few days since I last published this blog. No interest or too busy
We are in Victoria Falls Zimbabwe.
Sat we walked to see the Falls. Wow! Over a mike wide and 300 feet down. They form a snaky gorge below that is a mini Grand Canyon. Got wet from spray from water going over Falls. Rainbows everywhere. Water spray looks like smoke from a distance. Natives called it “The smoke that roared.”
Sunday was a full day. Early breakfast then off to the zip line to zip across the gorge. Took helicopter ride over and around the Falls, visited a local market, and went to a locals house for supper. Served us catipillar, kale in peanut sauce, carrots, a grits like dish, beef, chicken, and tiny fish. This lady’s husband had to pay 10 cows for her. She insists that her three kids will go to university.
Before supper went in a game drive to find black rhino. Found three as well as buffalo, giraffe, kudu, and zebra.
Monday was another early start. Met bus at 6:20 AM for ride to local village for talk with chief. Quite a guy! In charge if 5000 people. Unclear how he became chief. Claims he was voted in, but is not a politician. Takes good care of his people. Is also medicine man and U of New Mexico send scientists to see what he does.
Visited a wildlife conservatory where they rescue animals and study how to improve their lives.
Topped off the morning by going to the Elephant Walk - got to touch & feed them close up. NaN bought some butter dishes.
Got back before noon and had free time, so we walked downtown to shop. Bought nothing
At 3:30 we leave for a cruise on the Zambezi River upstream from the Falls. Hope the motor doesn’t break. Dinner will be in the boat. Should be back by 10:45.
