Greetings from Quito!
We are currently perched 2850m above sea level up in the Andes enjoying civilisation. As much as we loved Cuba, and had even got used to it's eccentricities, we are both relieved to be back in the land of shops, decent food, a single currency and temperatures below melting point.
Not much to say about Quito - it's a big city with all the things you would expect to find in a big city, although it is surrounded by mountains and volcanoes which are pretty spectacular. We looked around the new town yesterday, which is basically a big tourist centre, and booked ourselves a trip to the jungle.
We are going to go and explore the old town this morning and then we are going to Mittel del Mundo (Middle of the World) city later where the equator lies. Then this evening we jump on a bus to head over to the rainforest - so excited! So we'll be out of contact until at least Monday.
Sorry, still no photos - the computer here does not seem to recognise my camera. We will try again at our next stop. Sending much love back home.
