Blogging update...
I always got told never to start with an apology but I will anyway! Sorry we haven't updated for so long but one thing and another....
Ok so since the last blog we have spent 10 days in Cambodia and 10 days in Vietnam.
Cambodia
We arrived in Phnom Penh (the capital) and got straight into a Tuk Tuk. This is like a 100cc moto bike pulling a trailer with 4 seats in (so not to fast). Great fun and I would recommend to anyone. Stayed in Phnom Penh for 2 night and visited the Killing fields and the S21 museum (KF where they Khuma Rouge killed lots of Cambodia people and S21 where they tortured them) We both found this very sad. PP is a busy city full of moto bike (like most of Asia so far) We visited markets and bought some authentic clothes so we could blend in. I am sure we were slightly ripped off (need to work on bartering skills...). We went on the back of a moped. 3 of us altogether- not sure how it took the weight. They ride with a family of 6 all on 1 bike. Amazing.
We took our first 7hour bus to Siam Reap. Saw the Anchor Wat Temple and other. it did look like something out of Tomb Raider (see the video). Also took a boat ride along the Mekong River to a floating village. Prefered Siam Reap to Phnom Penh. Cleaner- less busy, markets were less of a jumble sale. We put our feel in a pool of fish which eat all the dead skin off your feet. Tickled but good.
After being citied out we decided it was time for some beach time. So we headed to Sikanville (something like that) in the south. Stayed in a bungalow on the beach for 3 nights and drank and eat and sunbathed. The weather was changeable so we never got to do a boat trip to the islands but had plenty of foot scrubs massages etc... on the beach to pass the time during the rain storms.
Traveled to Kep for 2 day (also by the sea) It is popular for mud crab. We won't lie we were expecting something a little bigger. But instead we got 8 medium sized fiddly to eat but yummy crabs. Apparently gone are the days of the big crabs due to over fishing!
We head back to Phnom Penh for a night before catching 10 hour bus to HCMC (Vietnam)
Vietnam
More to follow but dinner is ready.....
Ok it has been my job to do Vietnem (J). Very very beautiful country. The countryside is beautiful. Driving from one place to another can be pretty boring but with Prision Break on the Ipod and the views the time passes pretty quickly.
First stop was HCMC. Very busy like Phnom Penh- however no tuk tuk's just millions of motobikes. People over here do not tend to look in their mirrors so if you overtake someone you have to beep the horn so they know you are there. Strange and very annoying when you are trying to sleep on a bus. Whilte in HCMC we visited the war museum and the Tunnels which were build during the war for the Vietnamese to hid in (we got to go down them which was very scary). War museum was had very graphic photographs in which were quite disturbing but all very interesting. (yes I am turning into a geek!!). Met anice couple from Southampton so spent a few night with them. G prefered HCMC to Phnom Phnh but i think I was opposit- not sure why.
Dalat was nice- up in the mountins so pretty chilly at night. Did a tour where we went around the kings house and did a temple and a meditation centre adn the valleyt of love which was pretty poor!!!! Was good to do the tour and see things we wouldn't have otherwise but we are not too keen and beoing told how long we have at each place etc- no moretours for us.
Bus from dalat to Na Trang - well what fun. When we got on it we sat in it for 2 hoyrs while the wroked on the engine so it would start!!! Had to keep stopping as the bus kept smelling of petrol and we couldn't breath!!!!! NAyway all fine int he end and we arrived in Na Trang alive but very tired and in need of a largedrink!!!
Loved Na Trang. Had great weather while we were there. It was basically a holiday town- bit like Majorca. It was clean and had lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. 1st day we went on a boat trip. Met some nioce poeple who we got merry with in the evening. The boat trip included karoke (no unfortuanlely I did not get asked to sing) a band made out of kitchen rquipment. Good fun- rather 18 - 30's and spent more time on the beat than seeing the islands but was good fun all the same. Next day was spent on the beach with a mighty hangover!!!!!
Night bus back to HCMC- bus ok. 10 hrs and you get to kind of half lye down. Visited botanical gardens and zoo- ok but only really to kill time to wait for flight. Some of the cages smelt of poo which was a bit yuk!!!!!
Flew to Hanoi. Hanoi was pretty similar to HCMC. Mainly just explored the city. Went to a water Puppet show which was interesting!!!Did a trip to Hallong Bay. Very disorganised tour and will definalely never do one again (until the next time we are too lazy to sort it ourselves!!!!) Spent a night on a boat in Halong Bay. very beautiful. Very much like the Milford Sound just not a big. Definalely worth a visit. had great food on the boat went exploring caves and went kayaking. next day we went to Cat Ba Island and stayed a night in a hotel there. The beach was pretty dirty so we were naught and went to a post hotelk for the day to use therir pool!!!!.
Had lots of traditional Vietnamese food but was definately craving a steak and chips when we got back to Hanoi. Got a night Train to Hue. Train was great. Has lots of room. In a 4 person Cabin. Slept really well. It was such fun like being on Hogwards Express!!!!!!
Hue was possibly my fav city in Vietman. Very clean, not too busy, nice people. We hired bikes and cycled aroud the city. Was a great way to see it all in 1 day. Had ayummy Italian in the evening- still off noodles and rice!!!
We are now in China Beach (south a little og Danang) we are in a little guest house on the beach. The last 2 days we have walked down to the Sandy Beach hotel where we hgave chilled by the pool. It is an infinity pool. Very beautiful. beach is nioce- so so sos quite. There seem to be lots of hotelsd being build over the other side so luckily we have got to see it now withour lots of fat westerners lying on it !!!!
having a great time but missing ewveryone so so much. Sorry sbout the rubbish typing. Am trying to hurry as we don't want to walk back to our plave in the dark!!!! Very responsible.
No longer going to Laos as wouldn't have had enough time to do it justice so going straight to Thailand prob on Monday.
Getting slightly fed up of people tyring to sell us stuff. Hard to always be polite!!!! Also being ripped off by pop[el. They see you are white and charge you double but we have cottoned on now and are being tight!!!!!!!!
Will get some pics on here soon.
Lots of love xxxxxxxxx
ps tahnk you for all birthday messages. Had a nice day. 1/2 travelling and half of the beach. George got his arms threaded (like waxing) on the same day so watching him in pain was a pretty good gift!!!!!!
