Hello.
Our first stop heading South was at Waitomo. We got there and booked sraight on a trip to see the glow worms in the caves. We had a guided tour by a really crazy lady- she was fun. She took us into 2 sets of caves and we did a little boat ride to see all the glow worms. They were very pretty. Went back to hostel and loads of us watched some Lord of the Rings- has to be done in NZ!!! Didn't recognise anywhere though. George and i then got the cards out and loads of people asked to join in to had a tournomant of S**t head!!!
Next morning we went to see the biggest fluffiest cuddliet rabbits be sheared!!! Strange but true- will add pic's (Nicola you will love it- think D shuld get you one as a wedding gift!!).
Headed south to Rotorua which is where we are now- oh my god it stinks. It smells like eggy farts but a bit sweeter- i was nearly sick this morning!!!! It is becaue Rotorua is not very old and was created by Volcanic activity not long ago. There is loads of sulphur evrywhere which smells!!!! NOt nice.
Last night went to Mauri cultural evening (first inhabitants of NZ) They welcomed us to their village- did some singing dancing- boys did the Hacker (like at the beginning of Rugby) and girls did poi dance- yes we did join in. Then had a lovely dinner with them. Then they took us to see the geysers. Thermal pools that are sulphur water and kept warm by the earth and every hour a waterfall comes out of the ground about 10 metres high. Quite amazing. All the concrete we were standing on was hot and there were hot mud pools.
After that we went to a Polenease spa. They have loads of natural swimming pools all at different temperatures and overlooking the lake.. One so so hot we couldn't get in fully. It was nice being there at night as the pools were like baths and nice and warm.
Today we went Zorbing (get in a big hamster ball with water and they push you down a hill!!) good fun & then went on the Luge (like a bob sledge on concrete) also very fun.
Tomorrow heading down to Lake Tapio for 3 nights. Hopefully meeting with Rob & Tina to do a trek.
Hope everyone is enjoying the snow. Will add more pictures soon Love J & G xxx
