Joanna's travels
Last night it was suggested we make our way to Gudur, as it is a railway junction, so there would likely be some lodges there. So, we hit the road early, just to ensure that, should we break down, we would not have to worry about more night driving. The plan was to stick to 40km/hr and have frequest chai stops. And this tactic seemed to work. Which in some respects was a little frustrating as we were never quite sure if she would be fine or not, so we decided not to push our good fortune and instead got ourselves booked into a lodge on the main street next to the bus station which, in retrospect, probably wasn't the best move to ensure a good night's sleep. Lunch was something of a hands on experience - we were only offered a fork about half way through the meal - we had already got stuck in (well, when in Rome and all that) which is actually quite fun for rice and sauce, as long as it's not too hot!! Afterwards we had a quick wander round town and the only thing we could find to amuse ourselves was loads of plastic flowers with which to decorate Dolly. It was a small town, what can I say?! Back at the lodge, we were shown another newspaper article about the Rickshaw Run, this time featuring teams which we actually knew, which was pretty cool. Shame we seem to have been a day behind all these 'trailblazers'! And by 8pm, I was sound asleep. I know how to live!
