Hello Everyone,
Yes we're alive, sorry for the lack of blogs.
After Siam Reap, we took the coach to Phnom Penh. This is a noisy large capital city. We found a friendly guesthouse overlooking a lake. Very nice! We visited the infamous killing fields and the S21 torture bulding. Very saddening and scary. We didnt think it was right to take photos, so you'll find the Phnom Penh part of the albums lacking. From there we travelled across the border to Vietnam. We spent most of that day (8 hours) sitting in the main train station waiting for the 11pm train to Nha Trang.
We cant say we were very taken with Nha Trang. Its a very developed beach town which feels very much like over touristy mediterainean resorts. We decided to give it a chance and take a boat trip to visit the nearby islands. We were entertained on the baot by the crew. The trip advertised 'live onboard entertainment and a floating bar'. From the picture you can see that our boy-band (!) crew sang worldwide karaoke songs and the floating bar was a guy in a rubber ring dispensing cheap horrible rice wine. Anywho, it was an experience!
We decided to leave Nha Trang and head to Dalat which is in the the central highands. The climate in Dalat is very much like the UK. Matt liked it, but jo got cold feet as usual. She missed her nice furry socks. We took an 'Easy Rider' motorbike tour around the local area visiting waterfalls, silk factories, coffee plantations and temples. This was lots of fun and it was interesting to speak to real vietnamese who had been through the war.
From Dalat we decided to go to Mui Ne which is another beach resort, but much less developed. We liked it so much we decided to stay there for our last days in SE Asia. Mui Ne is very much like the islands of Thailand. As it was out of season we had most of the beaches to ourselves. We just relaxed by the pool, read and ate.
We are now in Saigon, waiting to catch our plane to India (via Singapore).
Hopefully we shall be in somewhere in northern india by our next blog with pictures of the Taj Mahal.
Hope everyone is well,
Love Matt and Jo x x
