Oppsss..... sorry we've not written in ages. The car only had a CD player so we couldn't plug in the MP3 players so after a few weeks with ONE CD and no radio (aerial broke off) we treated ourselves to a two more cheap CD's. Heaven!
Having got stuck in Mission Beach for a few days due to floods we moved on down the coast to Airlie Beach. Airlie Beach was nice and we were below the bad weather. We chilled there for about 4 days waiting for perfect weather to go and see the Whitsundays. We camped in a hostel that was very cheap but rubbish facilities.
We spent two days, two nights sailing out around the Whitsundays. We had really good weather but didn't make it out to the famous Whitehaven Beach as it was very rough. We did some sailing, cruising, had a BBQ, played games and Cricket on a Sand Bank in the middle of the sea. Our photos don't do the views justice.
After the Whitsundays we drove down to Byron Bay to go across to Fraser Island. We had two nights and three days on Fraser Island. The weather was quite varied but as 'hardened campers' we didn't mind. Driving a 4x4 with 11 people and lots of stuff was interesting! Saw lots and lots of Dingos. We had a three man tent to ourselves which was luxury compared to our tiny two man one.
It's quite hard to remember everything we did... all seems to merge after a while. I think we headed down to Byron Bay after Fraser, stopping off at lots of nice Coves and Bays on the way. Byron Bay was very cool.... Glastonbury in a town. We camped in a nice campsite just outside town. We spent our time in Byron wandering through the town, at the Beach and we had surf lessons. We both managed to stand up and not drown to much. Probably only drank a gallon or two. As we had spent so much time waiting out weather we were getting pushed for time so we did a couple of days long driving down to Sydney. We stopped off at lots of nice towns and camped at Crest Hill/Beach (?). We took the tent down for the LAST EVER time on 19/03/08! We gave it to a guy that worked at the camp site for his daughter to play with. We were definitely not sad to be giving the tent away. After three months of sleeping in a two man tent we were all camped out!
We're now in Sydney staying with a couple called Ingrid and Loui who we meet on the Milford Track in NZ. They've kindly put us up whilst we're here. Loving the home comforts of a sofa, toilet, metal cutlery (not stupid sporks), having a kettle.... the list could go on and on! So far we've taken a tour of the Opera House which was stunning! We've walked around the Botanical Gardens and the city. We have another five days left in Sydney and Australia!
Love
Jo and Matt
