Well here i am!!! First proper day! Been on the road now for 3 days. Left Heathrow on the Friday a tearful goodbye to mum and dad, then through to passport control. As i was queuing up to go through the xray machine there was a really tall transvestite who had really over the top make-up on and didnt pull off the woman look very well!! So funny when the staff didnt know if it should be a man, or a woman to search her when the buzzer went off!!! lol funny!
Flight went really quickly was sitting next to a rather nice scottish man from Edinburgh. Chatted quite a bit to him throughout the journey, was generally interested in my plans so was happy to go on about where im going, who im seeing etc.
Arrived in Bangkok and got a public taxi to hotel. Stayed very near to airport because of all the riots and because my flight was the next day and didnt want to go 40mins into the centre to come back 12 hours later. went down to the resturant in the evening sat on my own and ordered some rice and chicken dish. An Australian couple then came over and we chatted for a few hours, me telling them about my trip, them telling me about there trip and where i should go, wrote down a few places and will hopefully meet up with them in Melbourne after taking her facebook name.
Left the airport Sunday morning at 12.30pm and waited around the airport until my 3.30pm flight to Cambodia. Was happy to make full use of my new netbook and went on the internet for a while.
Was amazed when I was coming in to Phnom penh, it was simular to Thailand but bout 20 years behind, there were dirt roads and little shacks for houses. Came through to arrivals and there was a woman who was picking me up who had my name on a board, felt very important :D
Had a Tuk-tuk ride to the guest house, took about 20mins, no dirt tracks tho, a busy road this side of the airport with traffic every where!! I was the only western person on the road, and everyone kept beeping and smiling at me, loved it. Already loved the place before I had even got to the Guesthouse! When I was checking in I saw Nicola, a girl who I had met up with in London before I left to go away and who I'll be staying with travelling around for at least the next 3 months.
I put my things up in my dorm room, on my bed, I say bed, really a mattrass on the floor! We then went for a walk for a cold beer. A man was selling books and we had a look, Lonely Planet, Cambodia looked useful, it was of couse a photocopy, so first place was $21.99 managed to get it down it $5, bargain!! or yeah, they use dollars here too! Still tryingf to get my head around it!!
Has a Indian meal in the evening then went for a massage, 1 hour $11 or 7pounds 70p, not bad! Went to bed at 11.30pm as a long day.
Which takes me to today! The others in my room woke up arouns 8am, as its so hot i just couldnt get back to sleep so decided to go for a walk and start my blog! Meeting Nicola at 10.30am and thinking aobut going to the Tuol Sleng which is a torchure museum, should be interesting :S thats the one place dad has told me to go so far, so daddy will let you know what its like!
Bye for now xxxx
