Kristie, my friend from UCSD, found this place called Chinese Cooking Workshop. They offer lessons in making different types of dim sum and other Chinese dishes. She got a group of interns together from her program and we all got to learn how to make xiaolongbao and sago with coconut milk.
We had a Dim Sum master teach us how to make the xiaolongbao, but she didn't speak any English so one of the other workers tried to walk around and translate for us. Even though we didn't quite understand everything she said, we all were able to make some delicious dim sum.
Making the dim sum was not exactly an easy task. Making the dough to be the right shapes and sizes was a little difficult. I ended up having dim sum that were all different sizes and they were too doughy when I finished. I don't think I make the dough thin enough, so I have to remember that the next time I attempt to make them when I return home.
