Hi All

As you may guess from the date we are now back in the UK. Have been very busy rushing about trying to see everyone, but now have time to complete the text on our adventures. We left Auckland (NZ) on 20th May where we were 11 hours ahead of UK. We took off at 4.30 pm and after an 11 hour flight landed at Santiago (Chile) at 12 midday on the same day!! Now 3 hours behind UK and after a 9 hour stay we took off again to fly to Lima in Peru. Now 6 hours behind UK. Still 20th May !! Very confused bodies. Taken to crappy little hotel on the coast and fall into bed. Spend a couple of days finding our way round Lima. Driving bad, cars and roads falling apart and buildings in need of clean and repair. Despite all that a very interesting city. On 23rd May we flew to Cusco which is 3399 metres above sea level in the Andes. Lovely place full of old narrow cobbled streets and surrounded by mountain peaks. Hot in the daytime sun but very cold at night. Penny and Ken feel the effects of the altitude and Penny has to resort to large doses of oxygen. 25th May we take the train ride to Machu Picchu. Three and a half hours of stunning scenery through the Andes. Clear sky and sun so our tour of the ruins is fantastic. Breathtaking views from the top (after a hard climb up lots of steps!) Great guide so learn lots about the history of the Inca. 27th May fly back to Lima. Discover some great hidden places (like the oldest bar circa 1905 with waiters who looked as though they were as old) and a fantastic park full of fountains that all lit up at night.
