Since Klein's camp is so isolated in the Serengeti, animals roam the grounds at night. You have to be escorted from your cabin to dinner and back after dark. A Massai tribe member, Paulo, equipped with his spear, greets us at our door and uses a flashlight shinning into the woods as he walks us to dinner. At least the flight was at 8:30am and not 6am but we still had to leave Ngorongoro Crater Lodge at 7am. The driver told us it was a 1½ -hour drive, which would put us there just barely on time. In route we encountered a big delivery truck whose brakes failed causing it to block the 1½ lane dirt road along the crater rim. Next to the crater there is the Olduvai Gorge left from an ancient river. This is the place that Mary Leaky did her amazing discoveries of fossils and foot prints of all the early hominids, australopithecus (2.5-1.75mya), homohabilis (2-1.2mya), homoerectus (1.5-0.8 mya) and homosapiens (400,000-present).
