JONATHAN'S BLOGS
Today will be short and sweet because it was a pretty uninteresting day, and purposefully so. Our clothes wouldn't be ready until noon today, so we slept in until 11am and then just sat around, waiting for the socks to dry. When they were finally done and we finished burying our noses in them, savoring the sweet smell of soap, we walked back to Lulo for one final meal. I could eat there every day; they make the best guanabana shake I've had so far. What am I going to do when we get back to Florida and I can't get one of those anymore? I'd better start weaning myself off of them now... After lunch we took a short taxi ride to the local market where we caught a bus to Palomino, just an hour and a half away. The directions to our hostel consisted of: get off at the gas station and walk towards the beach. It sure sounded vague but once you get here it's pretty self explanatory. We're staying at the Dreamer Hostel, which has a great bar and swimming pool. Unfortunately we're starting to see it's more of a party hostel, which is definitely not our thing. On the plus side our dorm was less than their published rate online, so I feel like I'm getting a deal. I was hoping for perfect sun and glowing seas, but it just ain't happening. Fog, mist, clouds and rain are on the forecast for the next couple of days. We walked up and down the beach anyways and it's still surprisingly beautiful, overcast and all. The jungle butts right up to the beach, and the very mountains we just hiked through are visible in the distance. You can tell by the clarity of the water that it would glow turquoise if only the sun would come out. Still, I guess it's better for it to rain now than on our trek. Trying to climb up or down super steep paths of slippery orange clay would've been even more terrible if it were soaking wet. Here the rain might actually be nice; we can sit in a hammock on the beach and read a book while it pours. Well, Brittany can. Her old Kindle got crushed on the Jeep ride back to Santa Marta, so she commandeered mine. Looks like we'll be shopping for another one of those when we get back :) We're both still really sore from the hike so we turned down the "quiz night" invitation at the bar and we'll probably head to bed really soon. I'm hoping we'll at least get an hour or two of sun tomorrow, so we're going to give it our best shot and get up for the sunrise. I just googled it and we'll have to be on the beach by 5:41am. It better be worth it...
