Weds 20th We disemnbarked off of the coach at Kuantan Terminal Sentral bus depot. A taxi man was waiting, I showed him our homestay address. He, a little unsure, promptly called their number on his phone and confirmed the journey. "25RM" Frank tried to haggle but the guy laugh and told him it was 25. Sat 16th June As we pulled into Mersing, slowly - due to traffic, it seemed so much more promising a place compared to JB. The Mersing River ran alongside the town, with an array of coloured fishing boats moored up along the shore, 'somewhere interesting to walk' I thought. The river ran into the sea - so there must be a beach nearby too. Arrival and check in at the other Double K hostel with low expectations, we were minutely surprised to see this hostel seeme...

After our day in Singapore the rest of our stay in JB was incredibly dull. Due, entirely to the bore town that is the area of Larkin (where we were staying) and the fact that there were no pubs or even cafes to just chill out in. So everyday we got a bus into JB town/city centre for a coffee in Roost café and to walk around Johor Bahru. Below are a few other details on over the next few days. Tue 12th Bus journey 5RM (50p) for a trip of 31km. In other words the best value bus ride EVER! Left at 10:13am arrived at 12:50pm! So much traffic on the causeway. This was the same day Trump and Kim Jong-Un were at their summit. So the fuss was not for us. Pity. Had coffee and a light lunch in Muugu Fork (over half a day's budget!) and then walked to The Gardens by the Bay where there is a beautiful garden park with artifical/environmental trees - super trees...

Mon 11th June Arrival into Johor Bahru (or JB as its known) we pulled into Larkin Bus station and our hostel 'Double - K Hostel' was a 5 minute walk behind it. Checked into what seemed a dusty  forgotten place. We had a double room and there was a toaster and tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. This is ok. Out to explore then to eat.
