A bit of a lay in to recover from a few drinks last night. Today is about 4x4 off roading. We are going to meet up with Scotty and Craig, 2 friends of Checkez and Jens who have the right vehicles and bags of expertise for what has been promised to be top level and at times white knuckle.
First we stocked up on some provisions and fuel and met up with Scotty before taking the short 2 hour drive south to Harvey. We met Craig at a very atmospheric watering hole just outside Harvey, brimming with bikers and music and divided up between both their trucks. We took to the off road trails deep into the State Forest and were not disappointed. You would not believe it possible for any thing other than a tank to tackle some of the climbs but somehow these guys got us up in their trucks. 13kms of grade A off roading and 2.5 hours later we emerged back on an asphalt road and headed for the watering hole for a late lunch - steak Aussie style (see pic).
On a more emotional note; our travels to and from Harvey took us through an area that was devastated by recent bush fires. The village of Pinjarra was almost totally destroyed with only a few lucky homesteads left standing. A sobering experience to view.
