This morning we went to Julena school which is an hours drive further into the bush. It was an old barn converted into a school as the nearest school was an 11km walk for the children. However, it is still a 7km walk for some children. The school houses 160 children ranging from 4 to 13 years old, split into 8 classes with only 6 teachers. Friday morning I went to Mickey Mouse Preschool where I was greeted with a song and dance. I then went into the class of older children to do a colouring activity and helped hand out snack. My first at in the community was a fantastic day. I was with a special needs class of 19 children between the ages of 9 and 13. They were in this class because they were falling behind in their class so once they caught up they would rejoin their normal classes. After 3 flights and a 6hour bus ride I made it safely to Antelope Park - with my luggage (others weren't so lucky). Our first day consisted of introduction talks about the aims of the park and reasons for the conservation of these majestic animals. The irony of the lion symbolically so strong and powerful and yet in reality so vulnerable. After these talks I was then able to go on my first lion walk!
