Day 2 I was woken by one of the guides at 6.30am and given a hot chocolate to wake up to. I then had 45minutes to organise my backpack and day pack before breakfast. I was given some strange melon type fruit and a very strange version of porridge. I was then given a snack of biscuits and juice for later. 8.15 now it's time to start the climb to Shira camp although it's only 4-5hrs walk it was a very physical climb. Scrambling up a rock face, climbing a few metres along the edge of the rock with only a small ledge to grip half of your feet on to, with the guides shouting "don't fall" to encourage you along as you defy death. Safe. Phew. I am nearly at 3800m when I start to get a headache when I continue to walk it was better however was made worse when we stopped. The sun also didn't help, but it was certainly beautiful. Especially when I looked down the mountain at the clouds, just kissing the base of the mountain. It's a surreal experience!
I hurried into camp to go the loo or as the guides like to say "send a message" and then had a quick wash from the small bowl of hot water they brought around. After that I had lunch with the others which was bread, dough balls, banana, avocado, orange and banana soup. It sound bizarre but is actually very nice - the plantain tasted almost of potatoes in a sweet tomato sauce with veg. After that I had to sleep because my headache was bad so I took some paracetamol and slept for 1.5hrs and woke up feeling much better. 4pm we were rallied up to go for a nature walk to acclimatise to a higher altitude.
The g fighters (porters and crew) then sing us songs and danced. Before introducing themselves and what their job is. After that we warmed ourselves with hot chocolate and popcorn before dinner - cucumber soup and spag Bol! It's a windy night and very open, I'm in for a very cold night.
