It's straya day mate! So as usual my friends were working so my plans were zero, until once again the wonderful world of Facebook rescued me. I stumbled across a group on Facebook called "au pair life in Sydney" it has thousands of people who are in the same position as me and find it hard to meet new people because of work. So you can join the group leave a message saying where you live and when your free and people message you..then boom...you have friends ;) so I left a message and had 4 girls reply they lived near, I then asked what people were doing for Australia Day, as there were fireworks on in darling harbour. I then got 8 girls say they wanted to come. So I arranged to meet them. After meeting them in the city I was pretty much a tour guide I herded them around making sure we didn't lose anyone. We got to the harbour had a cocktail, I then suggested we got some take away pizza and some drinks and go sit in the near by park then come closer for fireworks. So we did, it was amazing the fireworks were incredible and the girls were all lovely. We had Italians, French, German, British and one girl from holland. In the display they had a giant rose on the water which opened up and shot water out which then had projectors on it showing the Australian flag. After the fireworks the Italian girls whose English isn't very good and haven't been here long looked at me and said "so how we get home?" I said "have not taken care of all of you all day, do you think I will leave now and say bye, don't worry I will make sure that you all get home safely" she smiled and said thank you. So after hustling through the crowds I got all 8 girls on the right buses and trains home. Dropping them off one by one and explaining their journey, of course they were all older than me but the mummy/nanny side just came out in me. Was a lovely experience and we are all planning more little meet ups, so I think I will need to study the transport timetables more ;) all in all a great Australia day!
