Hello again, not sure if I can top that blog... or even have the patience to sit down and write one that in depth. But Rome was fantastic!
After three days in Rome, we then had a short bus ride to Florence in the Tuscan region of Italy. We got a bonus stop on our bus in Orvieto, which was the Popes hideaway on the top of a hill with a spectacular view. With only half an hour at this stop after catching a train up the hill we quickly grabbed something to eat and looked around before meeting back at our bus. An hour later we were still waiting at the bus. 2 stupid girls had decided to get lost, in what I thought was THE smallest town EVER! It almost got to the point where the bus was going to leave them there due to them being so dumb and everyone getting angry and frustrated! Then the two finally decided to show their faces!
It was our shortest bus ride yet, arriving into Florence at around 4pm. We walked to our hotel and found out we were staying in a 3 bedroom apartment. One other couple on our bus were also staying there (who were the quietest people ever) and then the owner of the hotel, a little old Italian lady... who was yet to become my best friend. In the apartment was everything we needed, so in the end it was a money saver due to home cooked meals! Yum!
The first night we booked a tour of Florence with some of our friends from the bus. It was a 1 hour tour with all the major sites including; Statue of David & Deumo (4th biggest Church in the world). We then headed to a leather factory for some education on how to avoid buying fake leather. This was due to Florence being famous for leather, meaning rip offs were EVERYWHERE! We then got a four course meal at a pub with buschetta, 2 kinds of pasta, a choice of Florentine Steak or chicken and gelato. On top of that was a free drink- so I decided to try red wine. Drinks were extremely cheap and as we were all heading to a karaoke bar we decided to make the most of it. The night got extremely wild, but was great fun which resulted in a massive hangover the next day. I'm pretty sure James thought he was dying but we didn't do much the second day but walk around the Lorenzo Piazza markets and catch up on some washing etc.
Our last day in Florence we did pretty much everything in about 3 hours. Florence wasn't massive - easily walkable and with most of its attractions being museums (which me and James really aren't into) we saw more of the sights and views. We headed to the Ponte Vecchio which is the oldest bridge in Europe and climbed up to the top of Piazzale Michelangiolo for a complete view of Florence. After taking lots of photos we strolled back and got some gelato (which oops... I didn't pay for!) and souvenirs. Pretty b*****ed and tired after walking we stayed at the apartment and cooked some dinner. This is where I bonded with my Italian wannabe mother. It was that funny. She would have complete Italian conversations with me, in which I would have no clue what she was saying, so I would talk back in English. These conversations went on for about 10 mins. She then offered us food and kept persisting with the conversations before heading back into her room to sing along to Shakira and dance to rave music. That night expecting to do nothing, we decided to head to the hostel to meet up with friends for some pool and a few drinks. 1L of cocktails later, we were home in bed for 6 hours before getting up for our bus ride to Pisa in Italy for some photos with the leaning tower and then heading onto Nice in France for some sun and a cruise boat to St Tropez!!!!
