Hola from Copacabana in Bolivia...
The bus takes off and is driving for a couple of hours and then we get to the border crossing.. I had lost my immigration papers.. Yep I know I'm hopeless and had been told it could be $200 for new ones.. I had been dreading this border crossing and also because I got told in Australia you don't need your yellow fever vaccination for anywhere I was going yet everyone I met said you do for Bolivia.. The travel doctor was going to be in major trouble if that is the case.. I exchange my soles for bolivianos... the currency of Bolivia.. You know in case the name didn't give it away haha and head to immigration in Peru for the departure stamp and to face the music about immigration papers.. I get to the front and explain that I lost my papers and he handed me a new one and was like 40 bolivianos... that's $5 for those playing at home... relief came over me and I filled it out then and there handed him the money and form he stamped away and handed my passport back.. Awesome that was easy.
Now it's a 200 metre walk over the border and into the Bolivian immigration.. The next test the yellow fever or lack of vaccination.. I line up with my green immigration form we were given on the bus and passport.. Get to the front and bang stamp, stamp, stamp.. Tares off the arrival immigration papers and hands me my passport and the departure immigration form (keep this safe Jessica) and says "NEXT" really??? Could it have all been that easy.. I had been stressing about this in the back of my mind for weeks.. Anyway apparently it was this easy.. I got back on the bus and we headed on to Copacabana which was another 10 mins away..
Copacabana is a small town on the shores of Lake Titicaca.. Everything is walking distance and it's really chilled out. We arrive I ask for directions to the hotel, say goodbye to Jenny and Vikki and head on my way.. I find my hotel that looks amazing La Perla Del Lago.. It is only $10 a night as wel and includes breakfast.. I get to my room and the beds look amazing.. It takes all my will power not to jump in and have a snooze...
Anyway I head into town and look around. I walk along the shore for a bit and then wind up and down the streets looking at shops along my way... I immediately feel at ease here.. Which has happened only a handful of times on this trip.. Everyone is super friendly and the atmosphere of the town is really easy going.. I find n outdoor Mexican place and have tacos and a local beer whilst soaking up the sun.. After this I keep wandering around but after a couple of hours I had seen everything worth seeing... so I head back to the hostel to freshen up a bit.. Then head back out I sat at a cafe chilling on the internet and talking to the owners and other travellers for about the next 4 hours.. The owners were local well the people working there anyway and were really nice.. They asked lots of questions about Australia which I happily answered. There were a really arrogant American couple who were annoying but after a bit they left, I chatted to friends on the net and ate some great food, another chicken dish and apple pie.. Even though did nothing special was still a really good night.
At about 9 I headed off and went back to the hotel where I got in my pyjamas, put a movie on my laptop and fell straight asleep.. 11 hours later I woke up... was amazing.. I headed up to breakfast where I saw a toaster... finally toast I had been waiting since I left London for somewhere with a toaster.. I raced back downstairs and got my vegemite... vegemite toast and 11 hours sleep could it get any better honestly???
I wandered out and about for a couple of hours getting snacks for the bus and having one final look of Copacabana.. I really liked this town but it was time to head to La Paz..Bolivia's capital and the highest Capital in the world.. There have been road blocks and things due to protest by the indigenous people about the proposed road from Bolivia to Brazil through the Amazon that will destroy their homes but I think it may have cleared up a little.. So fingers crossed.. I head back to my hotel and await my transfer to LaPaz.. Hopefully
