Kuala Lumpur We landed in KL at 9am (1am English time) and then had to figure out which trains to catch to get to the hostel-I'm dippy enough at working out where to go in England let alone in Malaysia, on about 2 hours sleep! Luckily I had Emily with me so after taking a while to work out how to use the ticket machine we soon got to our hostel! We had to wait for our room to be ready and it truly felt like the longest hour of our lives- I have never felt so tired! We took a quick nap (5 hours..) and then headed out for the evening! We had been recommended our hostel because it was in the most amazingly central location! It was great, within a 5 minute walk from the hostel was a huge strip of sooo much street food, being complete newbies to travelling we had no idea what to order so didn't order particularly well however our food and a drink came to 10 Malaysian ringet-equivalent to £2!! Wandering around after tea led us to loads of cocktail bars- there was great live music so naturally we stayed for a mojito! The next day we met up with Sam's housemate from uni- Claire moved to Kuala Lumpur to work 14 months ago after graduating and loves the city so was keen to show us around! She was great! She came and got us from the hostel and then took us to one of her favourite restaurants,Din Tai Fung a Michelin Star restaurant! They make every single dumpling by hand! She ordered everything she usually has and we shared it all! It was Such such good food and at the top of one the many malls so we would have never known to go there ourselves ! The food is SO cheap in Malaysia- we were completely stuffed and again it only cost about a fiver! After lunch she took us all round the city- to the Shopping Malls, the Petronus Towers, and to China Town! Claire had to lie fully down on the floor to take a picture of us infront of the towers - they are insanely tall! We then went back to her apartment, it is sooo nice- the security guards are not there biggest fans as they are the apartment that has all the parties! It is very high up so has unbelievable views over the city! That evening Claire took us for dinner with her housemate and her housemates two friends that were also travelling and passing through kl! They are regulars at the restaurant so ordered their favourites and again it was a great meal! It was day 2 of our travels so was very interesting talking to the other travellers- they have been travelling for 4 and half years, met travelling and were about to go back to Thailand to get married on the beach! We then went back to Claire's for the evening- she lives next to the longest strip of bars and clubs so on the way home Emily and I couldn't resist popping into the 90's jukebox night - we felt like we were back in Newcastle! The next day we got up and made our way to batu caves- they are amazing caves that have a temple within so we had to make sure we covered our knees! You have to walk up (232) steps to get to the caves which made us realise just how unfit we are! There are monkeys jumping and climbing everywhere! I loved it but Emily is absolutely terrified so we had to try and stay away! When we got back we spent the afternoon looking around the shopping malls- I did not expect to see so many tophops, h&m and Zara's! That evening Claire had recommended we go to a sky bar called marinis on 57- I have never been to such a posh bar! I felt significantly underdressed rocking up wearing a bumbag! It was opposite the Petronus towers and had the most incredible view of kular lumpa lit up at night! We were completely blown away! We both absolutely loved kl- we were so lucky having Claire to show us around! She was amazing so it was a great place to start our travels!
