Arrived in Cuzco on Saturday and we're very impressed, it's a lovely city. Sadly our hotel isn't as good though, single beds, what's all that about? It was Sarahs birthday Saturday so we went out for dinner at a really nice place called The Muse which had live music, although they only played maroon 5! Nobody was very hungry because we'd all been to Bembo's (the Peruvian equivalent to McDonalds, but real meat!) at about 5, so everybody had soup or salads, although a couple of people just skipped straight to dessert. everybody was drinking cocktails or such like as we were going out afterwards, but again, at altitude, they went straight to everybodies heads and we were pretty raucous after just a couple. Sarah got bought a brownie as her birthday cake aswell, which actually turned out to be a coca brownie. We went to a club called roots, whcih was bizarre, it was inside but like a courtyard, and a really good night. You haven't had a night out till you've had one in Peru. We left at half 3, and left quite a few of the group there. Apparantly the rest of the group left Todd there at 5.30, the bar shut at 7, we have a feeling he didn't go to bed and just went straight to the jungle. Thankfully we didn't have to be up for anything the next morning.
Sunday we had a pretty lazy day, but Monday, 5 of the 7 who got left behind went white water rafting. It was a much longer day than we anticipated, with them picking us up at 9 and dropping us back in Cuzco at 5. We spent a good two hours on the river and are definately achey because of it now. It was more technical than we thought, it actually relied on us doing it well and listening to our guides commands... Forward paddle, back paddle, GET DOWN! He seemed to let us do much more than the other groups and we were drenched by the end and freezing. Thankfully we raced past everybody and were the frst back to camp to jump in the sauna and hot showers! That night we went out for a nice Italian before going back to the hotel. We realised we'd been watching Spanish tv for no reason and that if we looked carefully we had the Sony channel! We made it back in time for Greys. Good times.
Today we've had an english brekkie at The Real Mc'Coy. Beans on toast with HP sauce, and toast and Marmite. We think we may go back to watch the match and for a late lunch. We start the Lares Trek tomorrow so think we should get some nice homely food down us while we can. :D
Keep leaving messages guys, it's lovely to hear from you. Keeps us going when we're exhausted and hungry! :D Love you all. xxx
