Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree!
Ok so I said I was going to update more regularly so here goes.......I did a one day tour of Litchfield park which was really quite good (quite a long day though). Litchfield Park was officially returned to the Aboriginals in the 1980s. We visited 4 sets of waterfalls and magnetic termite mounds! They are bloody clever little things. Building the mound over decades and cleverly managing to always be warm! There was loads of them as well! Quite a site! I also saw my first Bush Fires and a Kookaburra! Can't wait to see Kangaroos and Koalas!A few of the waterfalls we had to trek to (up to 3K return to the 4WD) but the walk in the heat was worth it to get to a quieter spot. The other three falls that we went to were quite touristy. One even had steps to get into it! Crazy. The last one that we visited looked almost man-made! I reckon the planners of Centre Parcs pools have taken inspirations from here! It was gorgeous! A nature made swimming pool! People are starting to arrive in Darwin so that evening we enjoyed a group meal cooked by Rach before taking part in a pub quiz. My team came fourth and got the booby prize of $50 behind the bar. Not bad for a group of 'Poms' doing and Aussie quiz. The night was great fun. It was god to catch up with people and have a giggle. Last night I went to the deckchair cinema with Tom and Alex. Was a wicked idea to sit out on a warm evening with a clear sky and the stars above. We saw an Australian film about a lady to befriends a Chinese woman who is looking for her daughter who happens to have been trafficked here to work in the sex trade. Lovely stuff! But it was an interesting film and showed exactly how the Australian government treats such cases. I'm just about to wonder down the the Northern Territory Museum and to a lake for a swim. Tonight we are having a BBQ down on the beach and then my time in the North will be up and I'll wave the truck goodbye tomorrow!Bring on the Red Centre!Lots of love Nicole xxx
