After speaking to some people at the eco-friendly backpacker campsite when we were in Port Stephens we decided we definitely wanted to go inland a little and drive along Waterfall Way, Armidale to Dorrigo. As you have probably guessed there has been an on-going theme in our trip so far to not do things logically or in order...so why change? It was actually us being sensible on this occasion in that the 140 km road we needed to travel on from Port Macquarie to Armidale was in fact a dirt track. Given the current temperatures in NSW we decided trying it out probably wasn't that good an idea and instead drove past every single waterfall in order to get to Armidale where the first one was! It meant quite a long day driving but was definitely worth it as we got to see wild kangaroos for the first time!! It was amazing! We even got to see a joey scramble back into its Mum's pouch when it got scared by the Spaceship, so cute! We stayed on the National Park campsite which was out in the sticks and only another few people there. It was a little scary at one point when a very heavy footed kangaroo came bouncing out of the woods!
We spent the next day driving back to Dorrigo stopping off at the different waterfalls along the way. We enjoyed the journey and definitely glad we did it but we weren't blown away by them; our favourite was Ebor which had two sections to it, we stopped here for our picnic! We were hoping to have a little dip but you couldn't get down to any of them which was a shame.
We spent the night in a small town called Woolgoolga which was back on the coast. After smelling everyone's BBQs we decided it was time to treat ourselves and have some meat again; chicken kebabs, cous cous and salad...yum!
