Wellington
We arrived pretty late into Wellington, the capitol city of New Zealand. Half of our bus decided that one night wasn't long enough in the capitol so we decided to stay and get on the next bus, the other half of the bus kept going and had to leave really early the next day. This was really sad as none of us wanted to split up so we went on one last night out in Wellington.
During our few days in Wellington we came to realise why it is nicknamed the windy city. I'm not sure exactly what weather formation causes the phenomenon but it is so, so windy, all day every day. It got annoying after the first hour so I can't really imagine living there. We went for a walk up Mt. Victoria to a look out over the city. The walk was pretty tough but was made fun when we found a rope swing that swung out over a steep slope, the views from the swing were amazing, although one of the girls did manage to rip her leggings on the branch seat and had to walk up the hill with half her leg on show. The view from the top was awesome but you could hardly stand up straight due to the wind so after a quick few photos we headed back down!
The next day we decided to get a cable car up to a botanical garden, the gardens were surrounded by trees which sheltered you from most of the wind so it was a lovely afternoon looking around the gardens at all the different trees, flowers and fountains.
After taking advantage of being in a big city and doing some shopping we headed back to the hostel for an early night as we had to be up at 6.30am to catch the ferry to the south island.
