We have been in Xi'an 2 days...Its not as hectic as Beijing but is a great place to visit ! After a 12 hour over night train we arrived in Xi'an..Thetrain was comfey and Jo and me had the top bunk of3 high...At first we thought tis may be the worst place to be as it had a low ceiling but it soon beacme clear that this was the "pent house" of the sleeper train because we had loads more space to put our bags and we could spy on the mad Chinese people below......On the sleeper trains most people wake up pretty early, the loos get very smelly so you have to make sure you pee before they get to such a smelly state- it's all about timing and liquid control on sleeper trains! What an experince!!
In Xi'an you can actually cross the road without the fear of being run over!!! Our hostel has a great lounge and bar, the rooms are quiet limited and the image of prison cell springs to mind as it has a concrete floor! Its all good though as we are sharing a room with 2 other English girls who are alot of fun! The restaurant is brilliant and makes beautiful breakfasts and dinners...
Today we visited the Terrocotta Warriors which are about 2 hours away by bus.... these were a great site to see and are the worlds 8th wonder.... we looked around all 3 pits and pit 1 was the best as it was the largest and had loads of warriors !.....
We leave Xi'an tomorrow and head down south to Guilin where there is meant to be beautiful with limestone karst scenery.... We will spend a few days here...Apparently their local dish is snake head soup! This definatly beats the Beijing menu where you can sample dishes of frogs ovaries, pig trotter soup, soft shell turtle and pig stomach noddles...Hmmm which would you pick!! Check out all my photo's...
