So were here in Sydney now!!
After a mammouth coach journey overnight.. The coach was quiet so we were both able to lay across 2 seats and sleep most of the way. (saved us some money on accommodation anyway!!) It was quite an adventure, and we stopped off at a roadhouse in the middle of nowhere, where all the road-train drivers stop to sleep and get some cooked food. Next stop from there was Canberra, Australia's Capital, It seemed like a ghost toen, just an endless parade of motels after another!!
When we arrived in Sydney we took the train to Bondi Junction. This was traumatic, with all of our bags, after a tiresome journey, and during peak times amongst the commuters!!! We arrived at our Bondi Beach hostel and were able to check into our room straight away, we dropped our bagsand napped!!
Then roamed endlessly around the CBD area, it is really confusing, there isnt an obvious highstreet, like there is Briggate in Leeds or Hay street/ Murray street in Perth, so we were covering distances but it just seemed pointless!!
So we headed home to look for somewhere to live in the City, as soon as we found somewhere we had to go straight back into the city to view it. The appartment block was in the china town area above 'paddys market' and it was on the 38th floor with gorgeous views of Darling harbour, and it was a room with ensuite sharing with a chinese girl (the owner) and an Aussie couple... but the owner managed to slip up, and mentioned something about being kicked out... so we think she was going to take our bond and do a runner, she was wanting basically 4 weeks rent upfront! which would have been about $1700!!!
So even though I could see myself there we didnt take the risk and came home, exhausted!!
The next day after a fabulous nights sleep on both our parts we arranged a couple of viewings, so we were more organised and knew what we were doing..
Viewing 1: Was sharing an apartment with god knows how many more people, we would have our own room and own bathroom, but would have to share a kitchen, and the living room... but there was a couple living IN the living room... their privacy was behind a shower curtain!!
Viewing 2: Sharing an apartment with the owner and another boy ( who lived in the living room!) but we would have our own room again, and this was dead central in the city and had great views, a nice rooftop dining area and swimming pool.
Viewing 3: Was an apartment - with NO share... just by the train station, and.......... HAD NO FURNITURE!! But was otherwise perfect!!
Viewing 4: Horrible area, whilst we were waiting for the agent to show us, an abo (the first one to be seen in Sydney) shouted F*CK YOU... at me!!! not a nice area, but the room and place was nice.
Viewing 5: Nice area, facing Darling Harbour, lovely living area, sharing with a couple of other people but a huge space so noone living in eachothers pockets, huge studio bedroom and with a big courtyard BBQ area...
So needless to say we took the agent up on Viewing 5, paid our deposit, and he drove us to the station in his snazzy Mini cooper S JCW...
And today, as I write this, we are now staying in a hostel in the city until Thursday until we can move into our beautiful new Sydney home in the Pyrmont area, so going to be a tourist this weekend and check out the iconic sydney features, and suss out our new neighbourhood!!
So this is likely to be my last blog for a while, until I have news to tell you, and interesting pics for you to see!!
So do keep in touch, we will have FREE wifi so will be constantly online, so will be checking This, FB and Hotmail all the time so I look forward to hearing from you all.
Lots and Lots of love from the new residents of Sydney, NSW. xxxxxxxxxxxxx
