Lisa and I made quite a day of it today, we got up early around 7am to go on a jeep safari to White and Colored Canyon, I kind of decided to tag along rather last minute but they were ok with that and they were fine with me not paying them until after we returned to Dahab since I hadn't had a chance to go to an ATM yet. The trips cost 130 LE, which was really well prices. So we got in the jeep and picked up 4 other people from Poland, they didn't speak much English but we could communicate a little bit, and then we headed out!
Thankfully Lisa's mood has perked up a lot but I think we are both ready to go home. We drove for about 2 hours out to the middle of nowhere and our guide Mohammad took us out on the beginning of our walk, this first part was White Canyon and reminded me a lot of White Sands in NM, except that it was a canyon. Wasn't that amazing but cool enough, we did that hike for about an hour and a half.
Then we met a group of Bedouin people living in an Oasis and they made us lunch. There was guava fruit, potatoes and onions in sauce, bread, wild rice, and a tomato/cucumber salad. Every thing was so incredibly scrumptious, and the family was quite generous to have provided this for us considering they can't eat till sunset and made A LOT of food. The potatoes were wonderful, everyone had at least seconds, I wish I knew what sauce they were in cause it was just amazing! We relaxed there for a while and then headed on to Colored Canyon.
I enjoyed this part of the safari way more, the canyon itself wasn't that awesome but every one's spirits were good and we had fun joking around and taking lots of random pics. This hike was about 2 hours long and boy did I just want to sleep by the time we were done! My legs were so tired!
We headed back to Dahab with the jeep driver pulling some tricks in the sand and driving way faster than I ever would have (I think like 60MPH in the sand!!), but we all got quite a few laughs out of it and returned home safely.
After Lisa and I got back we paid up my portion of the trip and investigated a trip to St. Catherine's and Mt. Sinai (we found a tour group and booked for 90 LE), the we ate dinner at a restaurant called Eel Garden. I had a chicken curry dish with banana juice and Lisa had a hamburger and fries with lemon juice. Again the dish was just delectable! The best eating I've ever experienced has been on this trip! Then we headed back to the house for some quick R&R before the next trip.
