Right now I'm sat in an internet cafe which sells beer .. with the hustle and bustle of a small Asian island going on outside. It's good to be back in Asian is all I can say! It's warm .. unfortunately it's also wet today, a little bit sticky, people are friendly and annoying, food is hot and cheap .. so are the beers and there's plenty to see, do, buy! I arrived Tuesday night into Denpasar airport where I was met by an STA representative who took me to the hotel I'd booked in Legian/Seminyak. I got some rest before moving on the next day to somewhere cheaper! So currently I'm staying in Ned Kelly's Hideaway Seminyak. A cute little place set in quiet gardens with friendly stay, surfers and cheap beer/food. Yesterday I wandered the streets, exploring shops, eateries and the beach in the sun. Today I got up early and readied myself for a full day of sunbathing only to step outside and see grey skies. Instead I headed to see the delights of Kuta .. not so delightful .. busy, smelly, noisy and full of hassles but worth a look and maybe a shop before heading home with any few ruppee I have left. At least I managed to arrange onward transport to Lovina and Ubud!! I walked the 3km back along the beach and found some lunch at a local warang. The food is good although I never quiet know what I'm getting .. I figure it's best to stick to Indonesian, and while I'm here I should try it but since I barely know anything about the country and only decided to come here on a whim it's pot luck every meal time. So far it's not been too hot .. I could do with a little more spice .. although who wants Bali belly and I've washed it all down with a Bintang or two. For now as the sky doesn't seem to be clearing I might go try a Balinese massage or get my disgusting feet seen too. Tomorrow I am being picked up and taken on a cycling tour of rice paddies etc. And on Saturday I head to the north coast to Lovina .. hopefully for some sun. From there I'll go inland to Ubud to experience the culture, see a volcano and do some treks. hen back to the coast for rest and relaxation before finally returning home. I am undecided yet whether to venture over to Lombok and the Gilli's .. I would love to visit but don't want to be rushed!
