Up early for our Fraser Island trip, checked out rooms, our big rucksacks in storage and gathered out front for 7am with group. Two 4x4 cars, Rossco the tour guide was in leader car and us and few others in the other car following behind, 2 hour drive to Rainbow Beach. Changed our 4x4 over to a sand one then went to a servo to fuel up before heading onto beach to get barge over to island. As we got onto beach our car got bogged in sand straight away, turns out the 4 wheel drive wasn't working and so trip got delayed couple of hours while we waited for a mechanic car to come fix it. However, this still didn't work so ended up with his car which was much better haha, although still no air con and our cd player got downgraded to a tape player damn it! Around midday we got barge over to island only 10 mins or so journey to the island, drove an hour or so along beach and on an inland track to Eurong Resort, where we will be spending the night. We had lunch, ham salad wraps and walked to shop for an ice-cream and saw a Dingo on the beach :)
On the trip there was 5 of us who wanted to drive and throughout the 2 days we took turns in driving which was really cool on the beach or on the very bumpy inland tracks such good fun. Next we drove to Eli Creek, a natural lazy river was really cool, gorgeous clear water nice and refreshing. After an hour or so monkeying about and taking pictures we headed north towards Indian Head. Drove up via a shipwreck from long time ago which was quite cool. You can see inside as a lot of the outside had rusted away. We passed also the Pinnacles on the way which was essentially a cliff face but you could see the differing colours of the rock which was pretty awesome. We made it to Indian Head and had a little hike up to the top. When we got to the top we got an amazing view of the sea and also island behind us.
Gary then drove back to Eurong weeee!, settled into our 4-share rooms. We were with Matt and Steph, friends from our car :) went for dip in the pool before showering and getting ready for drinks and tea. Everyone chilled outside having few drinks, Steph was lovely enough to share her goon and fruit juice yum. Tea was awesome steak and chicken BBQ with pots and veg yum yum. Had walk down to the beach after tea to see a natural phenomenon, by rubbing our feet in the sand just above the surf, we could activate phosphorous in the sand! This caused little green sparks in the surf which was a really awesome experience. There were some amazing stars before continuing drinking and learning how crazy Rossco is, we were talking about Cane Toads and he said he'll go find us one as none of us had seen one. 2 minutes later he was back with one in his hand and after we had all held it he threw it on the floor killing it! Quite a few girls disappeared at that point haha but after hearing Rossco's reason we didn't feel so bad. Cane toads were introduced to Australia and have spread like a plague. They have poison sacs on their skin and while you can have mild hallucinations by licking them, you were more likely to get poisoned. However, Australian wildlife such as dingoes have been eating them and dying in large numbers. Admittedly, he probably could have killed it in a better way instead of how he did it. The sound will be remembered by all who was there for the rest of their lives.
Up 7am the next day, dressed and bags packed, breakie altogether and in cars by 8am I drove today yay!! Drove to Central Station, boardwalk along a creek through a beautiful rainforest. We did become a feast for mozzies during that walk, we were all constantly swatting ourselves and each other. We then continued onto Lake MacKenzie, a gorgeous big lake where we chilled for couple of hours swimming, sunbathing whatever we wanted to do. Rossco found us a small turtle so cute, had a really nice time. Drove back to Eurong for wrap lunch again before driving back to catch the barge over to mainland. We returned the sand 4x4 and since we had some free time, we headed to another creek and had a lovely refreshing dip before driving all the way back to Nomads Noosa. Checked in our 16 share, soooo many people haha, showered and changed and met up with group 6.30pm for food and drinks in the bar. Ended up a night out really good night drinking, boogieing, Gary doing the limbo. A Valentine's day we will not forget!
