Off the greyhound 7am and into the grey, rainy miserable weather we wandered into the small town of Airlie Beach to Beaches, our hostel. Luckily we were able to check in nice and early and got into our 8 share en-suite room :) Showered, changed and few jobs in room before heading out for walk round the main street and to Whitsundays Sailing Adventures office to check in for our trip tomorrow, got our boarding cards and forms to fill in. Went for breakie at Maccas, looked in a few jobs before heading back to room for a nap. Later on, the weather improved so went for another walk around to take photos and see the lagoon, beach and so on. We met Matt from our Fraser trip decided to go for drinks, food and play pool at Beaches bar as rain kicked in again. Nice afternoon finished with Macca's ice cream and chat to home, although not so successful. Sorted our bags for tomorrow, filled in our forms ready to go before bed.
Checked out of Beaches 9am walked over to YHA booked a double room for Tuesday night when we return back from our boat trip and left our bags in storage. Macca's again for breakie before walking in the rain over to Abel Marina where we met up with the Wings crew. 12pm the trip started gathered our forms and boarding passes and we headed onto the boat where pizza was awaiting us onboard. We got briefing on the trip, the boat, what to do and not to do and so on while we departed the marina. We got shown to our room all 8 shares but we had a double bed which was lovely, once settled we headed out on front of boat and enjoyed the view and the rain haha. First stop on the trip was to Blue Pearl Bay on Hayman Island, good few hours here snorkelling and diving if you wanted to, Gary did an Intro dive I decided to wait until tomorrow to dive and enjoyed the snorkelling. The visibility wasn't great but got to see a while bunch of small fish, really nice coral and we did see one big fish :) We stayed in this area tonight, so after snorkelling jumped in the onboard hot tub chatted to few guys on the trip was really nice. Showered and changed chatted some more, had tea BBQ chicken, potato bake and veg yum yum with some cake for pudding. The dive instructor Jezza talked to us about the fish we will see on the trip, plans for tomorrow and stuff, the captain/skipper Mark talked to us about where we had travelled to, info on Whitsundays it was nice night. Fiona was the other crew member, the host. Gary and me went to bed pretty early that night rested up for the day ahead.
Breakie at 7am as we sailed to Luncheon Bay where we spent an hour or so snorkelling really nice area, lots of little fishies. Onboard we had tea and biccys as travelled to Manta Ray Bay for more snorkelling, this was my favourite spot so far on the trip, great corals, good visibility and Gary and me even spotted a Hawksbill Turtle and chilled with him for a while, so cool. Neither of us dove today, I started to get a bit of a cold and people who had dived weren't so impressed and thought the snorkelling was better up in Cairns as saw more and so I was quite happy to enjoy the snorkelling and save some money! The next journey took a good few hours as we travelled around the island, played in the waves on the netted front of the boat getting very wet, really good fun but lost my turtle ring :( Enjoyed a bit sunbathe and nap chilling out front on boat as sun decided to pop out for little while.
By teatime we arrived at Tongue Bay where we would get off and walk over to Whitehaven Beach. We got the little boat out onto island and Fiona led us up through the rainforest to a lookout over Whitehaven Beach, it was stunning but unfortunately the sun did not come out and so the water didn't quite look the blue/green/turquoise colour we were hoping for but the sand was still gorgeous white and probably the finest sand we will ever see, it was really a beautiful view. We had few hours on the beach, Gary and me enjoyed the water and walk around spotting Sting-Rays and Baby Sharks really cool. Took lots of group photos, good fun before heading back on boat for the night. Hot tub and nachos onboard and chill time chatting. I started to feel bit poorly so chilled in bed for a little bit while tea was cooking. We had Szechuan beef, rice, veg with bread was nice and then rocky road for pudding while we watched the photos of the trip which the crew had took and we could buy CD. Only $30 for the photos which was definitely worth it for us as our camera died on our first snorkel which was so crap, especially as we had just bought it few days ago and its supposed to be waterproof grrrr! We had another talk from the crew about plans tomorrow before bed for us.
Up at 6am Gary and me off for Snorkel our last dip before heading back to Airlie Beach. This spot was within the Nara Inlet was really good spot a lot of coral all around, saw a lot of fishies but no turtles haha. Only had an hour or so before called back on boat and sailed back 2-3 hours to Airlie Beach. Chilled out front in the sun with everyone and as we arrived back to the Marina the crew gave us nice send off and goodbyes. Another amazing trip over!! It was really hot day, only a 10-15 mins walk back onto main street but we were so hot we jumped into the lagoon pool on our way to YHA. Unfortunately, we couldn't check in early today had to wait until 2pm and it was only 11am, went for drinks and snacks at Mac's and headed to lagoon again and chilled there for the couple of hours. Really nice area, napped in the sun and had dips in the pool area, nice and refreshing. 2pm checked into our double room ahhhhhhh, did some washing, sorted our big rucksacks and had a little nap in our room. Tea time we had Dominos pizza and chips in our room did some more jobs and got ready for drinks out. 8pm Wings afterparty at Beaches had few drinks with friends from the trip, free beer too yay!! Didn't stay out to long, still not feeling great, chilled in room chatted to mam and sorted for leaving tomorrow morning on 7am Greyhound to Townsville and Magnetic Island!!
