Hello There
Well when I last left you I was about to go to the Thai boxing (Muay Thai), well I went and it was amazing. We decided to pimp it up and get ring side seats, that had waitor service to ensure that we never had an empty glass! The boxing was brutal but ace. We had actually come on a championship fight night so there was a massive crowd in the cheap seats. Everyone was gambling (which funily enough is illegal in Thialand). The boys got really smashed and then we all had a photo done with the new champ! lol! Afterwards we headed outside to grab some food from the stalls, I settled on corn on the cob, but was very tempted by the fried crickets that were on sale! NOT!
The Next evening still very hung over we headed for Chang Mai on a 13 hr overnight bus. The journey was ok but I didnt sleep much and the services we stopped at had the biggest bugs I had ever seen in the sinks and toliets. When we arrived we had very swollen ankles, but nothing a thai foot massage later that day could not solve. In chiang mai we visited the Zoo and all I will say about that is dont bother. The night market was the same as the one in bangkok so didnt do much shopping so the next day we headed off to Pai.
Pai is a lovely place next to a river with nice food and bars. On the first night we arrived it was the last day of a buddist festival so there was lots of singing and dancing, a fair in which John won me and Dee a teddy each (Our hero! ha!), it was a really good atmosphere and an overall top night.
The next day we headed off on a trek! Yes thats correct I went on a trek! I have not ever before been a fan of walking long distances but this experience changed that! We went treking around the Sapong region of north Thailand up to the Lahoo village. We trekked through Jungle, rivers and paddy fileds to get there. In the jungle the guide nearly got bit by a snake! It jumped up at him and he had to throw his knife at it. Obviously at the back of the pack (I was always at the back, but the guys I was walking with had just trekked to Everest base camp!!) I didnt see that much, but apparently it was sacry! For dinner we ate Cow pat AKA fried rice much to our relief. I got a nasty rash after an evil hairy catapilla climbed up my arm, but other than that surived the trek unscathed. We stayed with a local hill tribe over night in a bamboo hut. None of us slept a wink between the barking dogs and the c*** all night long, but it was an experience! Oh and I must also say that bamboo houses were not made for hefalumps like me as proven when I fell through the floor! Woopsie! We also went to see some caves which were amazing and perfectly safe in the dry season in the north.
Next up was two days rafting, been a water baby I was quite at home rafting from Pai down the Pai river to Mae Hng Son. It was beautiful scenary, the rapids were quite low grade but were tricky due to the low water levels, lots of rocks to avoid. The boys raft capsised which was very funny, and we lost Eic twice and Dee once out of our raft. Not to brag but yes I was the only one not to fall out of the boat, ha ha! There was a waterfall that we slid down on our bums that was a laugh and also a nice hot spring on the way down. Again stayed in a bamboo houe over night and again didnt get much sleep. Lots of birds and monkys to been see on route and even a Gibbon.
Once we arrived In Mae Hong Son we were very tired! I had the nicest hottest thing I have ever eaten despite its tame titled as a fish salad! It blew my mouth off! The next day we hired out scooters and explored the Sapong region. Was a right laugh, very windey roads, and some impressive speeds down hill! Reminded me of my scooter days at 16! The boys were going a lot faster than me, but keep stopping now and then to let me catch up, im not quite as mental as them, esp since they had no driving liciences and didnt even now how to start the scooter at the beggining of the day!
I am now back I peaceful Pai recovering from my little adventure, had a quality week!
Kisses
