I love Laos!!!!
Its the sort of place that you can get lost for weeks in a drunken binge! We however only lost about 10 days! To enter Loas we took the slow boat from North Thailand for two days. What an experience! It was pouring down with rain for the whole time, freezing and cramped, however despite this I had a right laugh. We purchased some lao loa (the local vodka syle drink that ranges from 15 - 95%) and a group of about 20 of us got completely smashed for the entire journey, when it came to walking down the plank when we arrived I was all over the shop and my 20K rucksack did not help!
We were now in a place called Luang Prabang, which was a nice place, with some really good bars to keep things going on a night. From here we had a trip to a beautiful waterfall (which we decided to scale much to my disappointment with a raging hangover!) had a dip in the icy water, and saw a bear conservation programme, which was cool. We spent a couple of days here and then headed to Vang Vien. We stayed here in some riverside bungalows which were top class and still cheap. Vang Vien is a right laugh, the main thing to do here is to go tubing. You take a big rubber ring down the river, and get pulled into several bars along the way, stop for drink and shots have a go on the rope swings and zip lines. A top way to spend the day! Other than that its mainly just a place to get really stoned and have magic mushrooms (See the menu pic), obviously not that I did ;-) and thats how people lose weeks of there life! lol! Since we spent so long in Vang Vien we didnt acrually see any more of Loas before we headed to Vietnam, woops! So thats about it for loas - top place, got smashed!
