Well hello again.
We went to an island called Jeju, which was tagged as "the Hawaii of Asia", as it is off the south of the mainland, and so has a slightly warmer climate (much like the Isle of s***e could be labelled "the Hawaii of UK"!) It has lots of things to do so we did lots of things! This is what happened:
Day 1: A bit overcast and so we decided to explore our little town. We made our way down to a waterfall which is apparently the only one in Asia to flow straight into the sea (I dont believe this claim and aim to falsify it over the next few months of our travels)! On the way down we saw some Haenyeo, local women who go free diving for shellfish every day! They are all of grandma age and pretty inspiring to watch working underwater for hours on end. Watched the waterfall then went home to chill out. Went to a lacal eatery in the evening for some broiled fish and piggy soup before finding a baseball batting range to perfect our swings!
Day 2: Stupidly rainy all day- lazy morning of nothingness. In the afternoon we made our way to Manjaggul, the longet lava tube in the world (I think this one is true!). Bit of geog for you all: lava tubes are long underground caves which once were rivers of magma flowing. As the volcanic area became less active, the magma levels dropped and the river eventually solidified, forming some pretty spectacular caves. Lesson over, sorry. Made our way there on a rediculously slow local bus then hitched a ride to the actual cave entrance. All a bit geographically exciting and definitely one to remember.
Day 3: Sun is shining, weather is clear, makes you wanna go hire a scooter! Hooray-we got ourselves a shiney red bike to scoot about on- so that's just what we did. Found a lovely coast road to explore, then realised we'd missed the best beach so headed back to that and chilled/ played frisbee/swam for the rest of the afternoon. lots of fun had by all. Then went off on more scootering adventures- found a tea plantation and saw another waterfall by night- wow, what an action packed day I hear you say. Yes, yes it was.
Then we flew back to the mainland the end.
Bye, monty.
