Stopover Singapore
Imaculate Singapore - our stop over for a couple of days before we embarked on our big Indonesia adventure. It was a wonderful respite from the rest of Asia. Everything was incredibly clean and orderly, people are polite and kind and no one hassles you for money or tries to sell you stuff using every selling technique in the book- it was sheer bliss. There is little to do but shop, shop, shop, shop, shop and eat, eat, eat, eat, eat and eat. We did a tremendous amount of the latter. After a diet of rice (fried, steamed, sticky, and/or banana leaf ) we ploughed our way through Indian curries and Subways! We stayed in a homely guesthouse in Little India ran by a freindly man named Ali - he was our guide book to Singapore. We spent our days meandering around the streets, there is practically a shopping mall on every street corner some of which were open 24 hours ( if I didn't have 'short arms long pockets' Marky with me, I think I would have been back home long ago- Thank you Marky!) and simply enjoying the laid back city. On our travels of the city we realised we had just missed Singapore Idol which I was miffed about as it would have been hilarious to secretly sign Marky up- as everyone knows how much he loves to sing in public!! During this time we booked our flights to Indonesia a country that we were both excited yet maybe a little apprehensive about travelling.
Two days later we left the familarity of Singapore behind as we boarded a 2 hour flight to Yogyakarta, Java.
