Well, we are now in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur after our flight from Perth arrived last night and in just a few hours time we will be starting the final leg in what has been an amazing journey over the last two and a half years.
We arrived here just before midnight last night and due to the flight times we had over twelve hours before our connection to the UK. We were preparing ourselves for a very long night in the check in area whilst trying to get comfortable between the fat bloke and the screaming kids, when we were amazed to find out that we could actually check in already! So half a day before we were due to take off, we had our bags through security and headed onto the monorail to take us to the departure lounges.
We soon discovered that Kuala Lumpur airport is one of the best in the world and they actually had a hotel in the departure area! On inspection we found that we could pay a set price for 6 hours and then a little more for every additional hour after and before long we were tucked up in bed for a much needed nap.
On awaking we felt much refreshed and so the search began for some breakfast when we stumbled upon a depressing reality. As we had transferred our spare cash back to the UK we suddenly realised that everything was still in transit and that all we had at our disposal was about £10 that was left in one of our home accounts. However, our despair soon turned to joy as we checked the exchange rate and found out that this equated to just over 55 Malaysian Ringgits! The Milky Bars were certainly on us as we headed to one of the small pubs for some much needed food and we were soon plentifully stuffed and ready to explore for a few hours until our flight.
As well as the usual array of shops selling sweets, perfume and every tech gadget you could ever need (and many that you probably never would!) there were a couple of film 'lounges' where we could sit in relative comfort and watch some of the worst films ever made. There was even a small tropical rainforest complete with waterfall at the centre of the building from which all the departure gates branched off from.
We spent a few hours drifting from the film areas to the shops and back again before we were called to our gate ready to board. In just a few minutes we will be on the move again, only this time it will be the last journey for quite a while!
