On Thursday the 14th we decided to do a longer days drive, as the place we originally going to stay didnt look that great and we felt we could go a bit longer. Ended up in a place called Port Elliot in SA and we were so glad that we carried on to arrive there! It was a magic spot, we stayed in the brand new YHA which had only recently opened. It was excellent, there were only 4 others staying in the whole place so we had the big screen plasma and kitchen to ourselves. Luke cooked a delicious dinner of lamb cutlets while I watched the very exciting netball final. There was a really nice walk around the beach so with daylight savings here we were able to fit it in before it got dark.
Next morning we woke up early to get to Adelaide on time for a wine tour with our friends for their brother birthday. There was 13 of us on the bus and it was such a great day. We visited 4 wineries and it was really good to have a decent taste of the wines as we havent really had much of the reds which they specialise in over here. Fair to say by the end of the day everyone was mates!
The next day Matt and Bec took us on a tour of Adelaide with a trip to the local food markets which was really good, lots of things to taste and see as its a bit of a gourmet area. That night we went to Tim's 30th party which was fun, 2 lamb and 2 pork roasts on a spit to make 'yiros' (kebabs to us) and the boys had a pretty big night...when we went back in the morning there were quite a few who had been up all night!
On the Sunday there was a wine and cheese festival in town, LOADS of samples to try and came home with quite a few goodies. Had a BBQ for our final night at friends of friends but wow what a feast we had they really were masterchefs. On the menu was oysters, mussels, prawns, a whole ocean trout, ribs, haloumi&vege skewers, spatchcock ( a tasty chicken like pheasant), pumpkin and spinach salad, and for dessert mango daquaris and a sweet pumpkin pie from our canadian friend as it was Thanksgiving. Such a nice night and the best food of the trip! Thanks to all in Adelaide xo
