Rockin' all over the world
so i am in my hostel in hong kong after an incredible few weeks touring china, we have arranged our transport to Vietnam today and we are leaving soon before the city steals all my money, like some
A-hole stole my bra from the laundry today!anyway so in chronological order the highlights of the last 3 weeks.
after finally settling into the humid, poor & culturally challenging India we flew into Beijing - which may as well have been london, there are on average 7 KFCs per street, far too much traffic and no one and i mean NO ONE speaks english. they also had a pickled dead
guy (Chairman Mao) - which unfortunately London is lacking!
It took a few days to aclimatise, as we had nothing but shorts and tshirts and the weather was freezing, in addition everytime we left the hotel, people were taking sneaky photos of us, although not all of them are quite so subtle, some just handed us their babies and
whipped the camcorders out!
after a few days in the capital we trekked 10 miles along the great wall, it was unbelievable and remains the highlight of my time in the country. it was tough, we were pulling ourselves up the mountains with our arms at some points but it was sooo worth it.
We then moved to Xi'an - my favourite of all the cities, we cycled around the city wall and visited the teracotta warriors and best of all got absolutely s***faced in a crazy ass club, danced to chinese trance and then stumbled into some cabaret club with poledancers
wearing bridget jones style panties!
Next we hit Shanghai, drank lots of tea and enjoyed the back street markets, we saw acrobats and then stayed in a japanese karaoke bar until 5.30 am singing terribly and gettin wasted.
After a 28 hour train journey we finally landed in Yang Shuo which has got to be one of the most beautiful places on earth, i would like to return here to teach english after my trip! we went caving and 'frolicked' in a natural mud bath - photos to follow! we went on
a boat trip down the li river, spent a whole day cycling through the country side, and swam in the river in the evening. also played some pool and drank some beers
we moved into the mountains for a couple of days where we trekked through the longji rice terraces in the pouring rain! & played cards in wooden shacks huddled round the fire in the evenings!
we finally arrived in hongkong - it is crazy & expensive but i love it, we got the tram up victoria peak and watched the sunset over the city and then all the skyscrapers light up, its awesome! we went
drinking in bars last night in wan chai - where jagermeister is the cheapest tipple - whats a girl to do!
