Around the World Forever
Machu Picchu...The Lost City of the Incas was only discovered in 1911 and is now one of South America's premier tourist destinations. Due to our fast paced schedule, Tim and I didn't have time for the 4 day trek on the Inca trail so we took the train to the small village of Aguas Calientes, just a few kilometers from the ancient city and launching point to the ruins.
This place is absolutely amazing. It is so secluded on the top of a mountain that you have no choice but to wonder how they ever built the city and moved such large rocks .. all the way up here! Higher yet was a small set of ruins that overlook Machu Picchu called Waynapicchu. Tim and I made the difficult and very steep one hour climb but were rewarded with awesome views over the ruins and surrounding valleys. There's not much more to say about this place except that it's incredible and awe inspiring. I'm sure my photos can't convey what I was looking at at the time but that's all I have to share. This is a must see for anyone coming to Peru and South America. It's also the last touristy type thing Tim and I will do. Tomorrow we fly back to Lima to avoid a 24 hour bus journey and then he flies home the next evening. It was cool having a visitor though so if anyone else wants to come down, you know how to find me.
