Around the World Forever
Nariz del Diablo ... or The Devil's Nose, is a 5 hour train ride from Riobamba to Alausi' and finally to the Devils Nose, a mountain that the train descends that is so steep, it is dubbed the world's most dangerous train ride.
The train actually makes a series of switchbacks to descend the mountain. The train goes forward as normal for the first section, then stops, the tracks are switched, and then the train descends backwards for the next section, ect. The train see-saws its way down the mountain. Actually, it didn't seem so dangerous but fortunately the brakes worked well. The major attraction of this ride is that it's through the moutnains and valleys and the scenery is stunning. Plus, you get to ride on the roof and throw candy to all the kids that watch the train go by. Actually, the most fun and dangerous thing about the train ride is going the mens room! Yes, simply going to the bathroom was an Indiana Jones like adventure. After negotiating the walk way and all the passengers on the roof while the train is moving, you must climb down the ladder of the rail car, jump to the next rail car and climb in. Then repeat this in reverse to return ... what fun!!!! After the train ride, I returned to Baños and all my friends continued on their individual journeys. Check out the photos....
And finally, I am running out of Photo space on this websight. The web sight is free, however, it comes with only 20 MB storage for photos. Before I left the US, I donated $30 to the web sight and got 30 MB more for a total of 50 MB. I've used 40 so far which means I have 10 left. It won't last long so if anyone out there doesn't mind donating, that would be great. I get 1 MB of storage for every $ donated. Go here for more info http://www.travelpod.com/cgi-bin/help.p l?tweb_helpID=donate and make sure it is clear your donation is for JEFFSADVENTURES. Thanks.
