Around the World Forever
I caught up to my friends from Lima here in Manaus Brazil where I will celebrate the infamous Carnaval... Brazilian style. Manaus is a huge city plopped right in the middle of the Amazon along the river; complete with high rise buildings and the leftover architecture and opulence from what was once a super wealthy city in the early 1900´s due the boom in the rubber industry. For us, it´s just a run down looking place to throw a huge party and the Brazilians really know how to do it right!
What can I say, Carnaval here was amazing...and this is just a little one compared to the one in Rio or Salvadore. Saturday night was the true Carnaval here. The parades started around 11 pm and went on all night until well past 6 in the morning. Once again, my camera was not sufficient for zooming in for the best shots but what I have posted is the best I could do. The following nights were followed by a celebration I had never heard of before called Carnavoi. Basically you buy a T-shirt to get into the event and cruise around listening to all the different bands on several different stages.... and watching the Brazilians dance...amazing!
From here, Tamir and Ben go back to Lima. Boris and I will continue downriver to the Atlantic coast to a city called Belem.
