We left Todos Santos, after a luxurious couple of days, but we were ready to move on. This'll sound mad, but hotels like that, nice as they are, have a couple of downsides. For starters, they are quite sterile and soulless, you could be anywhere in world when you're staying there, so if you're after 'local colour', forget it. Secondly, the other guests always seem to be knob-sticks, Sal and I excepted!
We passed through the town of Todos Santos on our way to La Paz, for another fridge-magnet, another t-shirt, and a big Mexican butty for lunch.
We eventually arrived in La Paz, the capital of Baja Sur. It appeared to be a bit run-down, apparently due to the down-turn in the US economy, but it was still really nice, and less 'touristy' than the other places we'd been to in Baja. It was bloody hot, too! We went for an afternoon walk along the promenade, and it was deserted, only mad-dogs and Englishmen were out! The same prom was heaving at sunset, after it had cooled down a bit, and there was a nice atmosphere as loads of locals strolled or drove along the promenade. It was the only time we saw Mexicans drive slowly!
We had great food in La Paz, and a lovely day on a fabulous beach. We could've stayed longer, but in true 'Littlest Hobo' tradition, we had to keep on moving. As we left La Paz and headed back to Los Cabos for our final night, (a journey which took us across the Tropic of Cancer, geography fans!), Sal laughed when I asked, 'this place tonight, has it got a pool?'
Well, we followed the directions and turned into a private road, there was no hotel sign, but an electric gate and a security guard, who had our names on his list. He didn't actually say 'if you're name's not down, you're not coming in', but that was the vibe. We drove up to reception, and it became apparent that this place was so flash, it made the hotel in Todos Santos look like a Travel Lodge! Our room is beautiful, the pool (yes, it's got one!) is gorgeous, a man came 'round to clean your sunglasses while you sat there (he didn't wipe them on his t-shirt, either!), the beach is so clean it looks like they wash and iron the sand, and we've got our own butler!
The rest of the Guests are knob-sticks though!
