Hey guys
Here I go :)
This week was awesome and I had a lot of fun. When you saw a movie with cowboys who were doing all the cool stuff which every boy is dreaming about, I can say now: I did it :) beside shooting with guns^^
But before I tell you about that I need to tell you about the bad weather here. It's getting really cold and although it's June first. I think it's the coldest winter since 30years. So don't wanna know how it will be on July although its getting warmer now. The bad thing is that I will work from next week on in the state new south wales on a farm in mt gambier. This is far deeper in the south so therefore also colder and lies between adelaide and Melbourne. I'll work there on a sheep farm. So perhaps I have to castrate and butcher some of them. But not sure yet. ^^ so whoever thought that the weather in Aussie is always warm is wrong. It's really freezing in the morning.
anyways I'm also really lucky that I planned to fly to Brisbane first. I don't know if you saw it in the news but some big ash clouds from Peru let stopped the south australian air traffic. I had luck :)
Ok now to the interesting things. I arrived at the farm springbrook in goomerie. We were 9 people from three different countries. Britain, france and Germany and we were prepared for the farm work. So we learnt how to drive Motorbikes, quad and tractor.
Driving a tractor was fun but its too slow. You have 4 different ranges and every range is not really faster then the next one. But in the end you can drive 25km/h. Then we did also some usual farm work like eg using a chainsaw and riding a horse or build a fence.
One day we found a dead cow under a tree near of the owners house which lay there about a week. This poor animal were covered by flys and maggots and a terrible cadaverous odour were leaking from her body. (I took some pics. Sorry if I say it so late and if you saw it already in the album^^) anyways our trainer darrol and his wife carun bounded a chain around its neck and lead someone to pull it away by the tractor to another place. First we thought the neck will fell apart but nothing happened. Later on we saw that the cow was pregnant and a calf foot was looking out of her belly. Carun said that the cow had some problems earlier and it can be that the calf in her belly was already dead and poisoned her. It was very interesting to see sth like that because when would you see this in see this in the city?
On our last day we mustered the cattles from the fields and learned how to separate the cows from the calfs. Now you're asking why we were doing that? Because first we had to mark them on their ear and second we chose a male and female calf to brand them and also castrate it^^ yeah you here right. We caught the male calf in a metal grid (photos). darrol's wife sliced the scrotum and cut off the b******s.(photo) And after that it was also branded. So you can be sure it wasn't his lucky day^^
So what happened with the b******s - or let's say it in a less vulgar word - testicles. We cooked and ate them all are you thinking. But we gave them the dogs which ate and swallowed them like a feast meal.
So that was a really cool week and most of us were a bit sad to leave so early. It was more like holidays then work.
Anyway I enjoyed it and had a lot of fun. On Tuesday I'll fly to Adelaide and meet my boss Tom cockburn from where we drive to mt gambier. I'll be then a Shepherd ;)
So I let you know if sth new happened
Cu:)
