Adventures of Bowen & Smith
Hi Everyone,
So Marcus and I made it to Chiang Mai for our tour even though it included a 5 hour bus trip, 12 hour train, 12hour stop in Bangkok and another 15 hours on another train.
We were quite excited when we got to out hotel though as it was a 5 star hotel which was nice to be in for a change so we made the most of it and stayed in the shower for ages to pamper ourselves a little :) we met 4 other people that were going on the trip that night for an introduction and run down on what we would be doing.
1st day on trek,
a drive to some local markets to get supplies for the trip that were required (chocolate :) ) then a drive to where we drop the car and start our trekking. We walked for about 2 hours in the forest and lucky enough no one got any leeches on them. We stopped off that night at our first village for the night were we got a tour and some education into how they live there lives. We made spring rolls for our dinner and then finished the night off talking to some of the ladies from the village. There was a huge communication barrier yet we still ended up finding out what there sign for sex was accidentally :) finished the night off with some drinking games, we all had to sip some "Jungle Juice" when we mucked up the game.
2nd day on trek,
Woke up to some markets the locals had put together for us to buy from, then set out on our 4 hour walk. We saw how they work on the rice fields and had the chance to plant some rice plants for them. Had a break 2 hours into the trek at a great river with cool water to relax in then had to get onto a bamboo raft across the river for the last 2 hours of the walk. We were rewarded with time to relax in the river and jump off the bamboo rafts and float down the river with the current. The elephants arrived for us to ride on for an hour or so to our next village. That was scary, exciting and an experience and a half. This village was a lot bigger then the last one and even had its own school. We finished off this night with aussie songs which was a little corny yet fun at the same time. Bit like school camp
3rd day on trek,
The final day was just for river rafting. We rafted for 2 hours before a quick break and then another 2 hours which were quite exciting as we had heaps of rapids to go through, a snake dropped out of the tree and swam toward the raft. All the girls screamed there lungs out big time myself included of cause then a huge gust of wind came along and blew heaps of leaves off the trees that we were all trying to catch for good luck, we had a chance to jump of the raft for a swim and to finish our huge day off it started to ran which actually was really spectacular to watch while on the raft :)
Lucky enough you get another night in the hotel after the tour so we were quite excited to for this as we hadn't had proper shower or toilet facilities for 3 days now. It was tough but it was all there for the experience and we made it through alive :)
Once everyone from the trek was showers and rested up we all met up that night for dinner including our tour guides Jackie and Au. We ended up on the thai beer again call Chang which is pretty strong. Great night out with all the people from our tour. Night was filled with singing along to the song Sweet Home Alabama, running to the next pub in another rain storm getting drenched and laughing the whole time we were running, marcus buying bunches of roses of the locals for all us girls and himself and fitting 4 people in the tiny tuk tuks blind drunk to get home. We decided with all the rest of the roses we had that we would leave them on the door step of the other hotel rooms
we are now back in Bangkok for the last 3 days here in Thailand. We went out last night to watch the England soccer game and it turned out to be a fun random night out for sure. Had some drinks in this cool little bar and watched the soccer. Marcus wasn't ready to go home so talked me into one more drink at another bar, this is once the massive ran storm had finished and we could get to the next bar. Well we found a car night club up the stair with this Asian band singing top 40 songs and a bit of retro and they were actually quite good as well :)
we got kicked out of there at 1am so watch the Holland vs Portugal game down stairs and I ended the night with a random walk to by myself to Burger king for a burger. I know I am such a fatty :)
Marcus was getting picked up by all the Thai ladies and lady boys saying "you want something??" and Marcus would be like "sorry I don't know what you mean??" and she would point to her you no what and ask again "you want something??" completely disgusting I know but quite funny in the moment. Marcus was horrified but by the end of the night was used to it and just politely saying no thank you.
To finish off the last few days in Thailand we are watching Australia play Italy tonight of cause. Would be great if we pull a win off :) then maybe see the massive shopping centre tomorrow, patpong road tomorrow night as that is the red light district so it might be quite a funny night and hopefully Thai boxing as well then we are off on a jet plane (don't know when I will be back again heheheh) to Athens to see Karina and Lisa in the greek islands :)
I miss you guys so much :( looking forward to your emails on what you are all up too :) hope you all well and life its treating you well.
Love you and miss you
Jess
