I wanted to start the day off with something a bit more exciting, so we made our way east down the Royal Mile which ends at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The official residence of Her Majesty the Queen when in Scotland, it was a beautiful old building but we settled for just looking through the gate instead of touring it because our destination lay just beyond the palace. Arthur's Seat is the name of a dormant volcano that rises 600 meters above the city of Edinburgh and sits just at the end of the Royal Mile. We hiked it and enjoyed the incredible view of the city from the top and even met a group of Norwegian women who recommended a couple places I should visit while I'm in Norway. After making our way back down from the peak we went to the National Museum of Scotland and learned some more of the history of the country, from the formation of the land millions of years ago to their involvement in the World Wars. From there, we went to the National Gallery of Scotland and spent a short time looking at their collection of paintings (including 3 Monet's and a Van Gogh) before visiting the Prince's Street Gardens, which are just under the castle (and actually used to be a sewer trench which is why the garden is so fertile). While we sat in the grass enjoying the sunny weather, a tour guide and his group sat down near us so we got to listen in on his very animated story of the Stone of Destiny. We grabbed dinner and breakfast for tomorrow at a nearby grocery store and headed back to our dorm to pack up our stuff so we can get up at 5 tomorrow to make it to the airport for our flight to Sweden! Edingburgh is an amazing city and I hope I can return sometime in the near future (and I would recommend it to anybody visiting the UK). Now it's time to bid farewell to Britain!
