So it turns out National Day in Sweden is a joke. There's none of the patriotism like back in the States on 4th of July, no big crazy parties and no fireworks. National Day is actually very recent here so the idea of being a "proud Swede" is nonexistant. Today was very laidback, which is a pretty accurate representative of the Swedish mentality. It was a beautiful day so we went for a 2 1/2 bike ride around town, stopping at Möcken (the lake by Karlskoga) where people were out sunbathing and windsurfing. We went to an old farmhouse nearby where people were gathering for the holiday and a band was setting up to play later. We took a peek in the 18th century home and then biked by Hannah's elementary school and David's work before returning to his apartment. We drove to Becky's (Hannah's mother) house and met her stepdad, stepbrother and stepsister. They made us a delicious 3-course meal of cold cucumber soup, salmon and fruit crumbles and we left completely stuffed. We ended the night watching a movie back at David's and I booked my hostel in Paris for July 13th-15th for Bastille Day! Now that's going to be a crazy national day.
