I arrived in Split around 7 in the morning on the night train from Zagreb. I searched for my hostel for an hour and was sweaty and exhausted by the time I found it, so I rested until the afternoon before I set off into town with one goal in mind, the beach! I passed through the bustling market and the beautiful little Old Town and then continued past the harbor and along the water until it eventually led me to my destination. It wasn't the beach the receptionist suggested but some dark clouds were on the horizon and they were calling for rain later so I decided to enjoy the sun while I could. I walked out onto some rocks jutting out into the sea and soon I was swimming in the wonderful cool waters of the Adriatic! Luckily, as I was laying in the sun, the ominous clouds dissipated so I started walking down to the main beach. I met two guys along the way (one from the US and one from Chile) so we continued on together. A 10 minute walk brought us to a gorgeous sandy beach on the edge of crystal clear turquoise waters. We swam and talked for an hour or so before deciding to head back to town. The Adriatic is the saltiest water I've ever swam in and I left covered in a crust of salt. I said goodbye to the boys and went back to my hostel to shower. I met 3 English guys in my room and we decided to go grab some dinner at a nearby restaurant. Amazingly enough, this place had Mexican food! And I was completely surprised when one of the English blokes didn't even know what a quesadilla was. After a delicious meal and a couple half-liters of beer, we were feeling rather tired and headed back to the hostel with the intention of calling it an early night. But then we started talking about drinking games and figured we need to go play some right now. Two girls from the hostel joined us and we set off into the night. We stopped at a bar right on the beach and played Ninja while we drank a couple more beers. When the bar closed, we were ready to dance so we moved down the beach to a club. When we tired of that, we escaped to a quiet area down by the water. It wasn't long before we all decided to dive in! The water was so warm that we must have spent an hour or so splashing around in it. Eventually we returned to the hostel around 4 in the morning and collapsed in our beds. What a day!
