Arrived in Brisbane on the 24th (not the 22nd!) and headed straight out to Morton Island and the Tangalooma Wild Dolphin resort. Spent 5 idilyic days in an amazing villa on the beach. Had a couple of days of heavy rain but other than that the sun was shining and perfect blue sky's! On our 2nd night we had the amazing oppertunity to hand feed the wild dolphins. The first dolphin came to the resort in the 80's, attracted to the fish around the jetty that were attracted to the jetty lights at night. One day this female dolphin took a fish hand fed and has been passing this down through the generations. There are now approximatly 11 wild dolphins that come for a snack every night at 6pm (and they are so prompt it's amazing!). We were able to walk into the water with marine staff and hand feed fish to these amazing creatures. The resort Marine Biologists are really careful not to humanise the dolphins in anyway and only feed them about 10-20% of their daily food intake so that they still maintain all natural behavours. Totally beatuiful experience. We also hired a 4x4 for a couple of days to explore this huge sand island. We managed to blow the first truck up after driving in the wrong gear for 2 hours, the resort were great they sent out a rescue mission and a new truck for us to play with!!! Managed not to blow this one up and spent 2 great days exploring. On the western beach at low tide were hundreds of starfish, Emma went a bit overboard with the pictures (these are just some of them!). The turtle we assume was washed up in the bad rains and winds and it took us a while to realise he was dead!!! (Emma thought he might be sleeping so we left her with that!) Hmmm! How will we fair in the outback? Now back in Brisbane city for a couple of days. Jean left on the 30th and is now safely back home (almost got caught up in the dramas at the airports) and Ray is getting used to the life of a backpacker! I dont think he can belive how much we sleep and how loud the music is! Tomorrow (2nd) we pick up our rented camper van and head off to sunnier climes in the north. Plan is to be at Alice Springs by the 29th of July. We will of course keep you posted! x x x x
