Got back to the boat at 1am last night using the dinghy, which is always a challenge in the dark. Disappointing result in the football but a good night in the pub.
This morning we walked up to St Annes the capital of Alderney. Most shops were closed including the one in the picture. The shop front appealed to all of us. Set sail at 12:30 through the Swinge which is a notoriously rough patch of water. We picked slack tide and with the light winds it was very easy, I even made lunch as we sailed through. As we were approaching Liitle Russell which is the start of the Chanel into Guernsey we heard the low drone of the fast cat. 10 minutes later we saw it on the horizon. A further 10 minutes later it was roaring up behind us just as we wanted to turn to avoid the rocks. Fortunately we were 2 minutes from the rocks and it was only 1 minute before passing us. However it took all our wind and the tide was rushing us to the rocks at 4 knots. We managed to turn just in time.
Now happily in the harbour on a pontoon outside the marina as we are too deep to go inside.
