Day 36 & 37
We had our last full day in KL yesterday. As our flight to Singapore left at 0605 this morning we needed to stay somewhere in KL with easy access to the airport. There is a bus operated by AirAsia that begins to operate at 3am and is very cheap compared to a cab, so we found a hotel within walking distance of 'KL Sentral' station which is where the bus operates from. Not an awful lot to do or see in KL Sentral.
Arrived into Singpore very early and very tired. Thankfully the hotel we were staying in let us check in early. We are only here for the 1 night and have lots we want to see in a short space of time! When we were feeling a bit more like ourselves, we headed out and jumped on a train to Orchard Road. Couldnt tell you how many malls and shopping plazas there are in Orchard Road, but theres something for everybody and every budget. We made our way to 'Marina Bay Sands Hotel' which has a viewing deck on top of the hotel called the 'Skypark' where you can enjoy the view over Singapore. It was about £10 each to go to the top but worth every pennny.. We were in the skypark for around 1hour and a half and were lucky enough to watch the sunset. There is also an infinity pool at the top of the hotel but unfortunetly only guests can use it :( The hotel itself was incredibe although they are not quite finished in certain areas, therefore lots of building work still going on. The last stop for the night was Raffles Hotel, Long Bar for a Singapore Sling! It was delicious, but like everything else in Singapore it was fairly expensive.. $30 for a sling and $20 for a beer! In true backpacker style we decided to share a sling ;)
Day 38
Our flight from Singpore leaves at 8.20 pm tonight so we have a bit of time to kill at Changi airport.
We went down to Marina Bay this morning to have another look around before we left. We took a look at the Singapore flyer (like the London eye) and then had a wonder round the Esplande. The previous day we had noticed 100's of white floating beach balls in the bay and came accross an area by the side of the bay, with loads of balls that were yet to be placed in the bay. Intrigued as to what they were, we had a look and turned out they were 'wish balls' for the New Year. The idea being that you write a message on the ball to family and friends for the new year and it gets placed into the bay for a big reveal (and party) on new years eve.
Pleased we have seen Singapore, on an ideal budget maybe 2 nights would have been nice but dont feel as though we have missed out on 1 night and 2 longs days.
Sad to finallly leave Asia tonight but really looking forward to our next adventure in Australia.
