Jan's Travels
Stayed 4 days in Wellington adn that was probably enough. Went to the Te Papa museum, it was good to find out about the Maori history. Took the cable car to the top of the botanical gardens and although this isn't my picture I have one the same!
Karen and I took a Sweish guy to his first rugby game, Wellington lions v Aukalnd, his name was Jimmy (how funny) and he was so excited. I think he was a bit disappointed it didn't turn out to be like the All Blacks games. The West Pac stadium was about a third full, good to watch a game.
After Wellington headed to Taupo. Booked in to do a skydive with lLaura and Karen at two o'clock when we arrived! Jumped with a company called Taupo tandem Skydive. When we arrived we had to watch about three or four groups go up..that was the worst bit! I was pretty nervous but so ready for it at the same time. Before we jumped we were shown a video of what to do , of course knowing me it was in one ear and out the other! Met my 'tandem master', Dez! Unfortunately he wasn't the shiniest tool in the box. He was quite funny and did try to take my mind off it. Whne we got to a certian height I asked if this was where we were jumping, he told me we were only at 5000 feet, where we would open the parachute! I was jumping from 12,000!
I was second to jump and that was probably the worst bit watching Laura disappear beneath the plane. Then it was my turn. Can't believe I had to smile for the 'exit camera' as if! The first second of freefall was weird and that tummy feeling was there but after that it was strabgely, excellent! I was trying to take in the views and the expereince but at the same time smile (well try to) for the camera man who was falling with me. The view over lake taupo was amazing and it was a gorgeous day. When Dez pulled the parachute we shot into the sky and the ride down was great, so peaceful and scenic. We had a bout 45 sec freefall then a 5 min parachute ride. I ended up on my butt with my head blocking my instructors views, but safely all the same. I was pretty hyper when I landed, and I would defo do it again. It's so good having the dvd and photos (which I will try to upload soon).
The next day we watched Colin do his bungy jump, it was over so quickly and it's just something I have no intention of doing. Ended up walking most of the day. We went to hukka falls and craters of the moon (a geothermal park). The falls were worth seeing but not the thermal park. Past time walking by playing eye spy!
